Temporary Solution for Oily Hair

I have oily, lifeless hair that lacks volume.

Some people have told me that I can't wash my hair everyday because it might fall off. True or false, I'm not sure but I'm not taking any risk so I follow the advice. Well, except if the shampoo I'm using indicates 'for daily use', then I'll wash my hair everyday.

However, right now I'm not using a daily shampoo. I skip one day before the next wash so in between washes, my hair will be oily. So I tried the Sephora Dry Shampoo.
Directions for use: Shake well before use. Hold bottle 10-12 inches from dry hair and scalp, spray evenly. Brush hair.

The Sephora Express Dry Shampoo smells really good but it does NOTHING to my oily hair. Useless product.

There's another product on my dressing table, L'Oreal Nutri-Gloss Light Conditioning Spray.

Directions for use: Shake well before use. Spray on washed damp hair, or on dry hair to refresh and tone hair. No need to rinse. Can be used everyday for daily gloss.

This one works!

Both products cost about the same (can't remember the exact prices though) but Sephora doesn't work as well as L'Oreal does. So if you have oily scalp problem like me, go buy the L'Oreal spray!

My RM14 haircut

Today, in addition to waiting and worrying about job offers at home, I decided to do something extra. I got my hair cut!

I’ve always wanted a layered look ever since the beginning of last semester but since I was very busy, I couldn’t find time to go to the salon. So my hair grows and grows and grows up until a point when people would say I look like a Pontianak. My hair was very thick, very black and long.

So I went to this small, secluded salon near my house. I’ve always preferred small salons compared to big, swanky, posh ones. The reason is, ‘professional’ hairdressers are usually know-it-alls and they would cut my hair according to how THEY like, not how I would like it to be. Plus, they would criticized my hair (lots of dandruff, oily, too thick that you broke my brush).

Presenting…my new look!
Tada!

This is the third time I opted for a layered hairstyle. But this is the first time that I actually LIKE it. The first time I tried the layered look was when I was 14. The hairdresser was so stupid, she chopped my hair short, instead of layering it. The second time I tried it, the ‘professional’ hair stylist made my hair looks like a bowl.

The hair stylist gave me a wispy, layered look…making my formerly thick hair look thinner and light. But at the same time, my hair has volume, which I like. And this new style isn’t too “structured”, it’s more natural and ‘messy’ and I like it!

Wooh…I like it a lot.

Messy, out-of-bed hair.

Long at the back...short at the front. I like I like I like.

The hair stylist gave me a wispy fringe as well! I likeeeeeeee….

What I like about layered hairstyle…you can go for short, shoulder-length hair…

…or medium length hair at the next minute…

…or long hair! Totally versatile!

I would also give the customer service an A+. The hair stylist was nice, friendly, chatty Chinese lady. As usual, I got asked whether I’m have Chinese parentage. And as usual, I would have to explain that I’m partly Japanese which leads to a series of questions about my ancestry. But the thing is, I don’t really know my family history :P I only know I have Japanese blood from my mother’s side. The stylist said that this new layered haircut made me look even more Japanese.

This haircut cost me RM14 only.

Before I left, she told me to come to the salon more often coz she would like to see my ‘pretty face’ more often (AHA! The oldest trick in the book…using compliments to attract customers!). She also told me that I have nice eyes and that I should wear mascara to accentuate it. I always wear mascara, but today I was too lazy to wear full makeup.

Can’t wait to meet my bf and show off my new hairstyle!

Haircare tips from me

Once upon a time, I wrote an entry called "Skincare tips from me". Now I'm gonna write about haircare, since some people asked me what are the products I'm using for my hair my hair. They said my hair is very black and thick.

But if you see me in person, my hair isn't that nice. My hair resembles a (black) mop. Haha. I have problems like dandruff and split ends. And a little bit of hair fall (Thank God my hair is still thick).

HAIRCARE TIPS

#1: I'm using Himalaya Protein Shampoo & Conditioner for Normal Hair. It's great if you want strong, healthy hair. This shampoo has no nice-smelling scent like other shampoo though.

#2: I see people my age already has grey hairs. In fact, I've found one grey hair on my head a few semesters ago! I googled the cure for premature greying of hair and found the solution--Indian gooseberry. So sometimes I applied Himalaya Protein Hair Cream on my hair (it's main ingredient is Indian gooseberry). The cream d0es not only prevent premature greying, it also promotes hair growth. Besides that, I also take B complex supplement as it helps in preventing premature greying.

STYLING TIPS

#1: If I want to curl my hair, I only use plastic rollers and Lucido-L Designing Aqua Hair Curl Lotion (Airy). That's it. I find that whenever I used heated curlers, the curls last for about half an hour only! Heat doesn't work on my hair. Plastic rollers work better. To make sure the curl last long, I use Lucido-L Hair Spray.

#2: And if I'm having one of those bad hair days (when my hair is wavy but not in a good way, in a more unflattering way), I use Sunsilk Straight & Sleek Anti-Frizz Lotion. Leaves hair feeling soft and smelling nice. And if that doesn't work, I'll have to use FORCE, which is the Vidal Sassoon Ceramic Straightening Brush. Haha. But this rarely happens. And I try to avoid using that brush very often, coz heat is not good for the hair (the brush works with a hair dryer).

Another important haircare tip which I never care about before, until now, is trimming your split ends. I once read that if you have split ends, your hair won't grow anymore. So always trim your hair a bit once it gets out of shape. Whenever I have long hair, I find that the rate of hair fall increases. But I only need to trim for about 1-2 inches, and the hairfall stopped. So don't be lazy to visit your hairdresser!
P/S: If you're interested, google the product images. I'm so malas to put the pictures here. Hehe sorry!

Philips Salon Multistylist 8 in 1

I had a bad day yesterday. Regarding something personal which I can't publicly share in this blog.

I woke up this morning, with my "bed hair" looking worse than ever. Everyday I would use the Vidal Sassoon ceramic straightening brush so that my hair looks sleek. But then I thought, what if I'm travelling? The straightening brush needs a hairdryer to function. I can't bring the large brush and a hairdryer on my trips. I need a real hair straightener.

So today, instead of morphing around the house feeling depressed, I decided to go to KLCC. Mission? To find the Phillips Want2Move hair straightener.

My cousin Annur Ezzati (haha siap tulis nama penuh lagi.Always call people by their full names lately) already bought it. She bought it when I was having my finals and couldn't find the time to go out. Haha sabar je la. She bought it at Guardian for only RM100 (original price: RM149). It's perfect for me because of its small size.

So I went to Guardian, but sadly, the Want2Move straightener isn't available. So I went to Best Denki. Found it! In fact, there's a promotion. RM119. Just when I was about to reach for the box, I spotted something else.

The Phillips Salon Multistylist kit.

With this kit, you can straightener your hair, curl it, whatever. We're talking unlimited creativity and versatility here.

I immediately forgot about the Want2Move straightener. I was undecided whether to buy the Multistylist 8-in-1 (6 styles + hairclips + paddle brush) or 10-in-1(8 styles + hairclips + paddle brush). The 8-in-1 set cost RM129 (only RM10 more than Want2Move!) and the 10-in-1 is priced at RM169. With the 8-in-1, you can try many hairstyles like Straight & Sleek, Ringlets, Tight Curls, Soft Silky Curls, Large Voluminous Curls and Large Waves. 10-in-1 offers two extra type of curls, can't remember what they're called.

Finally I decided to get the 8-in-1 coz it's cheaper and who needs that many type of curls anyway?

The Multistylist set comes with an ugly navy blue travel pouch. (Navy blue is sooo not me!)

Err...why do all of the tools have to be blue as well? Why can't it be purple or lilac and cute like the Want2Move?

So once I'm home, I immediately tried on one of the curling tongs. I tried the Large Voluminous Curls first. Not much effect on my hair coz my hair is superthick and straight and difficult to style! I had to use the Tight Curls head, just to get a LOOSE curl.

This is me masa muda2 dulu (first year). I spent RM250 on this perm which lasted for only a short while. But Mr.Y loved it.Hehe.

And this is the result of a DIY perm at home today...

Not as good as the one I did at the salon a few years back.

This hairstyle takes 1 hour to achieve. And it lasted for only a few minutes. Grr...bengang tul. I think I need one of those curl spray or something.

Well, in conclusion, I had fun messing with my hair. It helped me forget my problems for a while. And I wouldn't use these styling irons everyday, I don't wanna risk ruining my hair. Although it's tempting to use them all the time! Hehe. I think I'll just reserve them for special occassions.

bad haircut

I'm so angry right now I can eat someone alive.

I've just wrote a long entry about my bad haircut and stupid Blogger didn't publish it. And did I mention I have a bad haircut??

I always get bored easily with my haircut, so I tend to change it very often. Latest is I'm bored with my messy long, layered hairdo. Makes me look old. So I want to trim it a few inches shorter, but not too short, I just want it fall below shoulder level.

I made the mistake of telling the hairdresser I wanted a bob. She said that if I want a bob, I'd have to cut it shorter, coz the length that I wanted isn't sufficient to create a bob. So I was like, OK, whatever.

Saying "OK, do whatever you want" to a hairdresser is the worst mistake you can make.
She cut my hair supershort! She said it's shoulder length but it's not. My hair looks something like this...like Victoria Beckham's do...

The only difference is that it looks good on Victoria coz she's so skinny, and it looks awful on my coz I'm so chubby. I shouldn't have said I wanted a bob, I can always create a bob myself, using rollers and hairdryer.

On my way home, I felt like crying, even though I receive compliments from makciks at the shops etc etc. But they were complimenting my very black and very thick and very straight hair (my hair is always poker straight once I had it cut, dunno why). But my hairstyle?? It's terrible.

I notice that there's always the same cycle whenever I change my hair:

1)Bored with current hair.
2)Went to hairdresser. Realizes that current hairstyle isn't so bad after all. But too late to go home.
3)Cut hair.
4)Hair looks great.
5)Hair grows back,look terrible.

Why can't my hair always look as good as it was when I left the salon???

I'm feeling cheerful today!

This morning I woke up and the first thing I did was browse through all the fluid mechanics final papers that my bf gave to me(yes, I still couldn't get over the fact that I couldn't do my fluid final).
And guess what?
I can do almost all of the questions in the past year papers. There are some tricky ones, but I still have an idea how to start. MY final paper? I'm totally clueless when I look at the questions. I wonder why am I so unlucky? Why is it that when I took fluid mechanics, I have to take the tough final paper?? The worst part is, I asked my one of my classmates, and he said the paper was "OK." *SOB*SOB* The paper was NOT ok to me!
And then I showered, got dressed and decided to have my fringe trimmed. I've always wanted to go for the doll-style look. The hairdresser complimented me!!

Hairstylist: Waa...ni anak you hah? Putih haa...manyak cantik! Muka dia macam different sikit la!
Mum: Yeke?
Hairstylist:Ya laa...lain aa dari muka you!
Mum: You tengok muka dia macam siapa?
Hairstylist: Macam Jepun!
Mum: Saya memang ada keturunan Jepun.
Hairstylist: *Cupping my face in her hand* Cantik sangat la...you belajar tinggi2 lepas tu you kawin dengan anak datuk! Orang cantik macam you ni kena kawin dengan orang bagus2 maaa...
*I was beaming proudly*
Hairstylist: Mesti you banyak boyfriend kan!
Me: Takde la, satu je.
Hairstylist: *Laughing* Satu sajaaaa?? Tapi mesti ramai orang tengok you kan?
Me: Takde la.
Hairstylist: Haiiyaa, kalau sudah ada boyfriend tak boleh la cari anak datuk..
And then another hairstylist passed by, and she said something to my stylist in Mandarin, and the stylist told me again that I'm pretty. Heee...

Since then, I'm so smug and proud and kembang, I look into the mirror every 5 seconds.

She cut my fringe just above eye level (yeay! Now I can study more comfortably!). She said that since she cut my hair "ngam2", I have to see her more often and come back again in another 2 weeks. I don't mind though, coz the shop is near my house and she charged me RM2 only, and there's this one time I read Cleo and it says that fringe needs to be trim every 2 weeks so that it will look nice. She wanted to cut my fringe shorter, but I said no, and she agreed coz it will look weird. She suggest that I opt for a longish fringe first, and then gradually she'll make it shorter. Whatever. She even said that my layered hairstyle is out of shape, and needs to be trimmed. Urghhh...I just wanna hear the part when she said I'm pretty that's all!
Before I left, she said, "Muka you sudah cantik, cuma kena jaga badan nanti lepas kawin jangan bagi gemuk haa!" Then she reminded me again to marry a nice guy.LOL.

Cut my hair!

Well,my fringe,to be exact. Used to have longish fringe, now cropped short. Dunno what the style is called, I'll refer to fashion mags after this.
Clean my room again. Purpose: to get rid of as much stuffs as possible. I discarded 2 large shopping bags full of clothes, some old mags etc.
Then in the middle of cleaning process, my parents dragged me to a relative's house. Fun,fun, fun. Listening to old women gossipping. They said the older I get,the more I look like my great grandmother, who is a Japanese but converted to Islam. Those ladies are going for umrah in September, and they said they'll pray that my mum will get a son-in-law as soon as possible.Hahaha.
Went home, planned to continue cleaning, then spotted a lizard near the pile-up of mess. So cleaning is post-poned. I'm sleeping in the guest room tonight, even though my dad had swept, vacuumed and check all my boxes for the lizard, I'm still unconvinced.I mean, the lizard could be lurking somewhere in my room. It can't just dissapear.
Bob is very "helpful". Didn't even bother to catch the lizard at all. She's more caring towards her spesies. Just now there was a kitten crying outside in the backyard, and due to her so-called motherly instinct, she panicked and nearly climb the grill again to look outside.
