Coach!

Yesterday, Mr.Y and I went to Sunway Pyramid to buy the last hantaran (gift) for me...a Coach handbag!

After quite some time of thinking which bag to buy, I finally settled forthe Madison Dotted Op Art Top Handle Pouch.

I feel rich carrying this paper bag around the mall. Hehe.

I just love the khaki + pink colour combination.

So cute!

Another 48 days and this bag will be all mine...

The back view.

Popular bookstore was also having a book sale and I fell in love with this small, pink Quran with Malay translation. So Mr.Y bought it, to be included in the same tray with the telekung and prayer mat.

Then we went to Mr.Y's house to fetch his mom and little sis. Activity of the day --shopping for fabric to make my dress (for his family's reception). Since I'm too short andpetite, we cannot rent a dress. The dress has to be tailor-made specially to fit my size. What a hassle huh?

Future mum-in-law (FMIL) picked a creme Duchess fabric to go with a white tulle lace. I have to say she's got a great taste. The result of these two combination is the mostgorgeous fabric I've ever seen. The colours, the embroidery...simply amazing. This fabric will be made into a dress for a night reception (for Mr.Y's dad's work colleagues).

Due to my (lack of) photography skills, I'm unable to potray the fabric beautifully as it really is.

For the day reception (friends and family), I get to pick the theme colour. I like peachso I picked a dark peach satin to go with a peach tulle lace. The tulle lace is not sonice (even FMIL and FSIL agreed with me) but the shop doesn't have any other peach tullelace. So we all settled for it.

In this picture it looks pink. It's actually peach.

Mr.Y doesn't like the color though. He said it doesn't suit his skintone. Even after his mum said it doesn't matter if it suit him or not because the most important thing is that I'll look pretty, he's still hesitant on wearing the colour. So in the end, he chose a lightershade of peach instead of the dark peach which I'll be wearing. Fine, whatever makes you happy.

P/S: Today I finally bought the contact lenses to be worn for the engagement ceremony.

The story of my pimples

Exactly one year ago, I was hellbent on giving up on an engineering career. I was so determined to work in other industries, which was how I ended up working in the airline industry now.

So what do I get from working in this company? I got headache, stress and pimples. My job requires someone with at least 10 years of experience in the company and I think it's a cruel joke that I'm placed in this position.

So...anyway...back to the story of pimples.

I came into this company with crystal clear skin. But now, my face is like the surface of the moon! At first, I wasn't really busy. I kinda enjoyed working there. But then gradually, all the projects commenced, and suddenly I'm swamped with works. And then the pimples came.

I thought that since I spent about 10 hours in the office, I should switched my Revlon Photo Ready foundation with a mineral one. So I bought the MAC Mineralized Liquid Foundation. That's when I started getting pimples all over my forehead.

I went to MAC, and the salesgirl told me that the Mineralize foundation is for dry skin. For oily skin like mine, I have to use the Studio Fix Liquid. So I bought it and the pimples on my forehead cleared up, but a few new pimples started growing on my cheeks.

I decided to change my skincare regime. I swopped my L'Oreal White Perfect cleanser with a special cleanser for acne-prone skin, the Himalaya Neem Facial Wash. That's when my skin broke out like crazy. I got tiny cystic acne all over my cheeks.

Desperately, I went to the medical centre at my office. The doctor prescribed me Minocin and Dalacin T. She told me that I'll have to take Minocin for about 6 months to a year to see its effect. She's right. Within a week of taking Minocin with Dalacin T, my pimples cleared up a bit, but my face is still blemished. The antiobiotic is very slow.

Everytime I see my senior manager, she'll be like "Wao your pimples are getting worse everyday!" So I decided...that's it. I have to see a dermatologist.

So yesterday (Saturday), I went to Ampang Puteri Hospital. The skin specialist confirmed that Minocin is very slow and she prescribed me Roaccutane (a form of isotretinoin). Due to its high vitamin A content, people taking Roaccune must avoid getting pregnant or donating blood (due to the possiblity of the blood being given to a pregnant women). Roaccutane may result in a fetus malformation. Besides that, Roaccutane is not to be taken by those with high cholestrol problem so I had to take a blood test on that day to determine my lipid profile and my liver efficiency or something like that. I also had to sign an agreement saying that my doctor has briefed me and I should avoid pregnancy during the course of taking the medication (duhhh...I'm not even married yet).

The doctor prescribed me some pills and cream and I had to pay RM353.30 for the treatment. My Journey-To-Clear-Skin Kit consist of the following:

1) Augmentin (antibiotic) - to clear up the tiny cystic acne

2) Roaccutane - to minimize sebum production

3) Cetaphil cleanser for oily skin - I likeee! My face feels squeaky clean after using it.

4) Lactacyd body wash

5) Differin topical gel - to be applied at night only, for pimples and scars.

Whoever reads this post, please pray that I will never ever have pimples again in my entire life because pimples make me really depressed. Thank you.

So you wanna take up engineering?

According to my family (father's side) , if you don't study medicine, you're not smart.

Which is why I have quite a number of cousins who scored straight As in their SPM and is now either study medicine in UK/Ireland or struggling with pre-U to get into medical school.

I remember when I didn't score straight As during SPM and I ended up studying civil engineering in Uniten, a few relatives made some comments as if to dismiss my intellectual capability. They thought that since I was a straight A student for UPSR & PMR, I will maintain my results during SPM. But you know what? I couldn't be Little Miss Perfect all the time. When I was enrolled in Uniten, they looked down on me because it was a private university and people tend to perceive that private universities are for non-performers during SPM. They also criticized my course, among the things that they said were:

  1. there were too many civil engineering graduates out there and I wouldn't be able to get a job.

  2. civil engineering is easy compared to other branches of engineering.

  3. I'm a girl and there's no way a girl can succeed in the construction industry.

Among these 3 things, I hate point #2 the most, especially since the comments came from those who did not study engineering and those who did not attend university at all! I remember there was once I was studying for my Geology exam. My aunt had a look at my Geology lecture notes and commented that whatever I learned in that Geology class was easy peasy and her son learned the same thing in primary school in US. In other words, whatever I study is worthless and Malaysian university syllabus is comparable to US elementary school syllabus!

I ignored what my relatives said about my field of study and did my best. Last year in April, I graduated with an excellent result which I'm very proud of. And now guess what? My aunt who used to criticize me called up and said her son is now taking up civil engineering too! Another relative who looked down on me and said that I couldn't find a job because I'm a CE graduate told me that her grandson's taking up civil engineering in Uniten! I was so surprised. Previously these people wanted their son/grandson to take up medicine. Now just look at them...haa!

These people are now asking me lots of things about CE. I told them that it's a great course and their kids/grandkids will be able to succeed. It's a big fat lie. The truth is, CE is a tough and dull course. You need a strong interest OR the brains to be able to get through it.

The moral of the story is, don't look down on people. Someday you might end up just like the people whom you have belittled before.

Shoes!

What I bought at KLCC today...

This is the pair of shoes that I'll be wearing on my engagement day...

A pair of silver peep-toe Lewre slingbacks...with platforms (just like how the Kak A (makeup artist) suggested). I chose the colour silver because Kak A and Aunty L (my neighbour) said the colour goes on well with lilac.

And this is the shoes for the solemnization ceremony...

Also from Lewre. Creme T-bar platform heels with diamentes.

It matches the fabric for my wedding dress perfectly!

I also bought a shirt and tie at Marks & Spencer for Mr.Y. My father picked the colour.

I've also made an appointment & paid the deposit for the photographer. The package that I selected consists of the following:

- All pictures in DVD
- Sticky Album with 120 4R pictures
- 8R picture with frame

- FOC outdoor session

This package costs RM900 and since Mr.Y also requests for a sticky album, that's another RM300 so the total cost is RM1200.

Meeting with makeup artist

Today me & my parents came over to Mr.Y's house to meet his family and discuss about the engagement. A few highlights of the meeting:

  • The venue for the engagement has been confirmed. It will be at Saujana Hotel on 11th June 2011, 2.30pm.

  • My future PIL said that the gold tulle lace and satin I bought for the reception is beautiful and matches my fair skin.

  • Future MIL cooked delicious nasi lemak.

Then my parents & I went to Klang to see the makeup artist, Kak A. She showed me her portfolio and I told her I don't want bright red lipstick or anything scary like that. She understood. Highlights of our meeting:

  • The cost of makeup is RM500, accessories is RM50 and veil is around RM12 if I'm not mistaken. I will have to pay for the makeup and Mum pays for the accessories and veil.
Kak A and my mum suggested that I wear fresh flowers on my hair. Mum will sponsor the flowers.

  • For the engagement, solemnization & reception, Kak A told me to look for high-heeled shoes that has a platform. This is because I'm short and if I wear shoes without platform it will be uncomfortable and tiring to wear for long hours.

  • Kak A told me to look for Mr.Y's sampin & tanjak for the reception from now because it's hard to look for a colour that matches my gold dress.

  • Kak A also told me to buy a pair of misty grey contact lens with black ring.

I told my mum that RM500 for makeup is a bit too expensive for me but she insisted that she'd done her homework and this rate is considered a bargain.

Vows to myself...

From now on, I promise myself that I will...

- be myself and those who have problems with me being too lembut or too garang can go to hell.

- stop trying to please everyone because people never make the same amount of effort to please ME.

-not get easily stressed with work because it is not worth it.

- stop comparing myself with my friends because we're different. Yeah, they work in banks and they get huge bonuses. But I work with an airline and you can't compare an airline with banks or engineering companies.
