I'm a dead meat

It has been one month I've been in this company, and finally today I got to know my sub-division. I've known which division I'm in since day 1 at this company, but I have not been assigned a sub-division, which left me wondering everyday...will I work in Inventory or Pricing?

Today I got the answer.

And the answer is NEITHER.

I'll be working in SYSTEMS.

Oh.My.God.

When I told Fiza that I'll be working in Systems, she frowned. She's in HR and she had worked in HR Systems before and it's hell. I am not in HR, but in this company, every department has a Systems sub-division. And if you get Systems, it's like getting a death sentence or something.

One thing you have to know about me is that I am not IT savvy. My IT skills are limited to:

a) Windows OS (who on Earth doesn't know Windows???)
b) E-mailing
c) Social networking (Facebook, Twitter).

Thats. It.

So this morning I was called in by the GM.

"Tell me what's your Statistics background is like."

"Well, I know the basics like mean, mode, median, standard deviation and variance. I also know some additional things like binomial formula, Poisson distribution bla bla bla..." <-- I was selling myself.

GM nodded her head. "What about programming?"

Err...OK, I didn't like where the conversation was heading to.

"Ermm...I learnt programming in my first semester."

What I didn't tell her was that I hated C programming with all my heart, I skipped class and went to the foodcourt and read Harian Metro instead and I hired a tutor to do my programming assignments.

"OK, I'm going to put you in Systems. You'll be dealing with a lot of statistics."

My heart sank. Memories of doing Statistics a few months back came flooding back. Probability of finding insect fragments in a chocolate bar is bla bla bla, you ate bla bla bla grams of chocolate, whats the probability that you swallowed 10 disgusting insect fragments?

My boss said that I was selected for this job because it really suits my engineering background and I'm supposed to be a 'specialist' in all of the systems that the company used. The sad thing is, I've only tried using one of the systems, and I am not very competent at it. Now I have to be a 'specialist' at it, and when other people have problems with the system, I should be able to help. How am I going to help the poeople who know more about the systems that I do???

I feel like I'm working in IT technical support.

Right now I'm praying hard that I can perform in this job.
